Pre-Conference Sessions (also known as Council Leadership Day)
Council Leadership Day will take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. Sessions will begin at 8:00 am with the first of multiple "learning pods". The association's annual meeting and council awards ceremony will take place during a luncheon, learning pods will continue, and the day will conclude with sharing sessions by council size and an opening reception. > See the notes from 2018
Who should attend?
The day is for volunteer leaders and staff executives of estate planning councils affiliated with NAEPC. NAEPC recommends sending at least one officer at the vice-president level or under and the council's executive. Please contact NAEPC if your council is not affiliated and you are interested in attending.
What's a "learning pod"?
Learning pods are small group workshops where council leaders can share their experience and learn from one another, all based on a single subject. At the time of registration attendees will be asked to choose their sessions from a list of topics, allowing you to focus on what is most important to your council right now. If your council is sending multiple leaders, please make sure to register for different sessions so you receive the full benefit of the day.

Wednesday, November 6th - Animal Lovers Tour
10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Can you believe there are dolphins, lions and one of the world's best aquariums in the desert? Well, it's true and for this tour our guests will embark on an adventure throughout the Las Vegas Strip seeking the animals that call Las Vegas home. The first stop will be at the Shark Reef in the Mandalay Bay. Here you will come face-to-face with some of the earth’s most fascinating creatures in North America’s only predator-based aquarium and exhibit. See sharks of all kinds, along with sawfish, giant rays, endangered green sea turtles, piranha, moon jellies and the rare golden crocodiles. In all, there are over 2,000 animals in 1.6 million gallons of seawater. After Shark Reef, we will make a stop at the famed In-N-Out Burger for lunch before being heading to the Siegfried & Roy Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage where tigers, panthers, leopards and dolphins enjoy the Vegas sun and a posh resort like the millions of human tourists who visit the city each year. The facility, which opened in 1990, is the dream of legendary magicians Siegfried & Roy. Surrounded by palm trees, lush foliage and 2.5 million gallons of water, the Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage is truly an oasis on the Las Vegas Strip. The Dolphin Habitat is actually a research facility designed to educate people about these amazing creatures. And while the dolphins don't perform on a regular schedule, visitors can still be surprised by a fun thing or two. Just steps away from the Dolphin Habitat, guests will enter the wonderful, secluded world of beautiful wildcats. The attraction displays six different showcases of lions, tigers and leopards, but the majority of these cats aren't like the typical colored wildcats.
Thursday, November 7th - Red Rock Canyon Tour
8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Red Rock Canyon is the perfect way to escape the glamour of the Vegas Strip and explore the natural beauty of Nevada’s wilderness only miles away from The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. We'll start out from the hotel in a luxurious Tour Trekker, custom-built for comfort and ease, and head to the Visitor's Center to discover a desert tortoise habitat, interpretive exhibits, and a must-see gift shop that’s worth the quick shop before the adventure begins. The landscape of Red Rock Canyon is dominated by the towering Wilson Cliffs. Rising over 3,000 feet, this massive wall of rock is part of the Keystone Thrust and serves as a striking backdrop for our day. To the east, you’ll find the Spring Mountain range soaring high above the valley, which is home to more than 600 species of plants, including ponderosa pines rooted to the top of the mountain peaks. The last stop on our Red Rock Canyon tour is at Red Rock Overlook. Trek the paved trail up to the top of a low mountain for breathtaking views of all the natural beauty you saw close-up at Red Rock Canyon. A boxed lunch will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes.
Tours and timing subject to change. Your safety is our priority. While we make every effort to host the tours as planned, weather or factors our of our control may create a need for a substitute program. In the event weather impacts our abililty to provide the published tour, a substitute event will be provided.
